Four Pillars for Life Change

At thePursuit School of Ministry we believe that a student must experience four key elements of personal growth before life change can occur. Pastor Steve, founder of WSSM, explains, “At WSSM we strive to build a whole person through a whole educational process that transforms the whole life. This includes teaching from God’s Word (information), personal study and mentoring (revelation), hands on experiences in community with other believers (transformation) and taking the message to the world (incarnation).”  This philosophy of ministry is best explained below:

Pillar #1: Information

We desire that our students have hearts and heads on fire for God. We believe that information is foundational to transformation. We will provide teaching that is uniquely crafted to inform and equip students in how to live the Christian life with a balance of both the Word of God and the Spirit of Christ. We believe that all study must be filtered through the lens of a biblical Christian worldview.

Practicum: Our curriculum will include weekly topics of teaching that emphasize the power of the Scriptures, Christian worldview and the outworking of the power of the Holy Spirit. We will meet Monday nights and Saturday mornings for teaching that will include homework and hands-on assignments. Teaching will also include special electives offered on Saturdays.

Pillar #2: Revelation

We believe that spiritual information should lead to an encounter with the living God. It is not until we experience the revelation of truth through the inspiration from the Spirit of God that our lives can be changed. Passion for Christ-like character and holiness only comes as we have a revelation of God’s holiness. Revelation occurs as we pray, worship, meditate in God’s Word and spend time alone with Him.

Practicum: Formation at the deepest levels of our inner person occurs as we take time for dynamic reflection and truly pray through what we are learning. The need for alone time and seeking God is crucial in experiencing the formation of godly character. Special times for fasting and prayer will be a weekly part of the schedule. Wednesday mornings 5-7am and Friday nights 5-7pm are times for Worship5:8.

Pillar #3: Transformation

True transformation of our inner spirit comes as we minister and relate in community with God’s people. We learn to love God, ourselves, and love our neighbors as we daily relate to each other in relationships. It is in relationships and ministry with peers and mentors that God shows us our strengths, weaknesses, spiritual gifts and talents.

Practicum: We will provide internships in which the student will be trained in ministry. Each student will be assigned a mentor relationship that will include frequent interaction and training in growth areas.

Pillar #4: Incarnation

True transformation of the human spirit by Christ will always lead to a passion to share this good news with the world. At thePursuit we will challenge students to go out and change the world with the love and compassion of Christ. Just as Jesus incarnated His love to the world through his life and actions, so we are called to carry on the incarnational love of Christ to the world.

Practicum: Students will do internships Saturday and Sunday of every week. Internships will include ministering in Mountain Springs Church, local ministries and challenging outreaches in the city. Students will also be challenged to carry out numerous leadership assignments that include teaching, forming groups and leading mission outreaches.
