Welcome to the Pursuit

At thePursuit School we believe that now is the time for Spirit filled, Word empowered, men and women to go out and make a powerful impact on our world. We believe that we are living in the latter days, and that the world is hungry for people who love God and are passionate to change lives through the ministry of the Word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. We also believe that learning is best caught through an environment that captures the best of teaching, hands on ministry and character development in a church based community setting. This two semester school will utilize three educational pillars in building men and women into Spirit filled, Word empowered disciple’s of Christ.

Development of Worshippers and Warriors

Worshippers and Warriors and the Next Generation Leader

By Steve Holt - Download the .pdf  Listen to the sermon ->

The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people… 1 Samuel 13:14

In the times of Saul, God was looking for a man who had a heart for Him. He found such a man in a young teenager named David. God is still looking for young people who have a heart in hot pursuit for God. David was a young man who was called out by God to be a worshipper and a warrior. God is calling out this generation of young people with the heart and passion of David. David’s heart and passion under the power of the Holy Spirit, is a type for the end times leader.

David, who was not looking for glory or power, was uniquely called out by God to carry out great exploits as a young man. God is raising up such a generation. God is moving in these latter days to raise up worshippers of the King and warriors for the kingdom of God.

David as a Worshipper

As David came to the end of his life and looked back over his years of success and effectiveness as a king and soldier, he recounts one thing, above all others, as his greatest and most defining quality:

2 Samuel 23:1

Now these are the last words of David.

Thus says David the son of Jesse;

Thus says the man raised up on high,

The anointed of the God of Jacob,

And the sweet psalmist of Israel

David’s self-description was “the sweet psalmist of Israel.” Not a king, leader, or soldier, but as a worshipper of the Lord. David’s heart was preeminently given to the Lord in a passionate desire to worship the Almighty. The book of Psalms, perfectly placed in the center of the Bible, is the hymnal of David. David recorded almost half of all the Psalms. The Psalter is also the hymnal of God. No other book of the Bible has touched, comforted, and empowered so many through the ages as the Psalms. They are primarily the songs of a man whose heart was captivated by the majesty and love of God.

David learned how to worship his Lord as a lonely shepherd boy in the back hills of his father’s farm. Away from his brothers, alone with the sheep, nature, and God, we can imagine David picking up his harp and singing his heart out. It was in these times that he would cry out to God and listen for His Lord’s voice. It was on those Palestinian hills that David’s heart for God was formed. As a shepherd boy, David built up the most important resume of all: a private history with God. A life of intimacy that no one knew anything about, save One. God saw, God heard and God knew that a heart for Him was being formed.

God so desires to raise up a generation of men and women who are worshippers of Him first and foremost. Young people who know how to access the throne room of God through an intimate encounter with Christ are uniquely prepared to hear His voice and respond with passion and zeal.

David as a Warrior

David learned how to war in the same place that he learned to worship…in the back hills of Jesse’s farm while tending sheep. It was out there, where no one could see his actions, that David risked his life to save the lives of his sheep. In response to Saul’s questioning of his fighting abilities David said, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it rose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear…” (1 Sam. 17:34-35).

David learned to battle in the Spirit because He was first, in the Spirit. If one hasn’t learned to commune in the Spirit as a worshipper, he/she cannot be effective in fighting in the Spirit as a warrior. David was a worshipper first and a warrior second. The warrior heart of David was a reflection of his tender worshipping heart before God.

David became the greatest warrior in Israel’s history because he could hear from and obey God. Obedience was the hallmark of David’s warrior heart. David was “a man after [God’s] own heart, who will do all [His] will.” (Acts 13:22) He was willing to do whatever God called him to do, because his heart was warm toward the Lord.

The Next Generation Leader

The next generation that may usher in the coming of Christ will be a generation of young people who are worshippers and warriors. Not warriors simply out of the needs of the world (as incredible as those needs are), rather they will be worshippers called by God through communing and interacting with God’s heart and passion. This passion for God, born out of intercession, worship and a deep study of God’s Word, will birth a

boldness and tenacity that will echo the words of David, “Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing that he has defied the armies of the living God.” (1 Sam 17:36)

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

As we observe the rising tide of lawlessness and licentiousness in our land, God is still looking over the whole earth for men and women whose hearts are ravished with the love and grace of God. God is building a generation of worshippers and warriors who have developed a secret history with Him. He is empowering such leaders with His Spirit and “showing Himself strong” through them.

A Cause Worth Living For

What are you living for? Is what you are living for worth dying for? Let me propose that if what you are living for isn’t worth dying for, then your vision is too small. David was willing to give his life for a cause worth dying for. Will you echo the words of David as he looked at the giant Goliath across the Valley of Elah, “Is there not a cause?” The only cause worth living and dying for, is the cause of Jesus Christ. Join the cause. Join this generation of young David’s who have committed their lives to being passionate worshippers of the King and zealous warriors for the kingdom of God.
